New Endowment Funds
Endowed funds represent the growing history of The Dayton Foundation and exemplify our donors commitment to society and to the Greater Miami Valley community.
The following long-term funds were established between July 1, 2004, and June 30, 2005. Fund families and their new funds are listed below.

The Jack and Carol Adam Family Fund 2004 benefits charitable organizations, as designated by its donors. Jack Adam, president of Mead-Adam & Co., Inc., and his wife Carol, a former schoolteacher, have a strong interest in education, especially Catholic education, as well as in many religious, humanitarian, social and cultural causes in the Dayton community. The William S. and Janice R. Anderson Foundation 2005 benefits charitable organizations, as suggested by the donors. William S. Anderson is the retired chair of the NCR Corporation, who has contributed more than $1 million to various funds and subsidiaries of The Dayton Foundation and is credited with establishing the Foundation's first donor-advised fund. Anonymous fund #15 2004 benefits charitable organizations, as advised by the donor. The Antioch School Expansion Fund 2005 aids in financing future building renovations, land acquisition or structural needs for this Yellow Springs school. The Beth Abraham Synagogue Foundation Pure Endowment Fund 2005 will provide long-term support for Beth Abraham Synagogue, located in Dayton. The Beth Abraham Synagogue Foundation Term Endowment Fund 2005 serves to accept charitable donations for the unrestricted use of Beth Abraham Synagogue. Building Bridges, Inc., Legacy Endowment Fund 2005 assures unrestricted revenue for Building Bridges, Inc., to help young men become productive members of society. Civitan Club of Dayton 2004 will support organizations that provide programs or services for individuals with disabilities or at-risk youth. Established in 1921, the Civitan Club of Dayton is dedicated to improving the community through service and fellowship. The Benjamin G. Danis, III, Fund 2005 benefits charitable organizations as advised by the donor. The Thomas and Mollie Danis Foundation Fund 2004 benefits charitable, educational, religious and community activities, as advised by the fund's founders. Thomas J. Danis is the CEO of The Danis Companies. The Day-Mont Behavioral Healthcare Legacy Fund 2005 generates annual unrestricted revenue for Day-Mont Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. The Dayton Horseshow Association, Inc., Endowment Fund 2005 will support the association's operations and programs by generating unrestricted operating revenue. The Dayton Rotary Foundation Community Fund 2004 was established by The Dayton Rotary Foundation to further its charitable activities. The Gloria Dei Montessori Sustainability Fund 2004 furthers the mission of this Dayton Montessori school, by generating unrestricted operating income. The Gloria Dei Montessori Term Fund 2004 will encourage the continued growth of this Dayton Montessori school through its capital campaign. The Byron and Nancy Firsdon Foundation 2005 enhances charitable, educational and community services as directed by the donors. Following his retirement as a U.S. Air Force Colonel, Byron Firsdon established his own building company, Firsdon Byron Construction Co., Inc., in Dayton. Five Rivers Metro Parks - Hills and Dales Fund, 2004 established by the Committee to Restore Hills and Dales Park, will support the restoration and maintenance of this Kettering park. The Speros and Phyllis Gabriel Family Fund 2004 supports worthy community endeavors, as advised by Speros Gabriel, a retired general surgeon at Grandview Hospital Medical Center and Southview Hospital, and his wife, Phyllis. The Dave Herring Memorial Scholarship Fund 2005 was established by Northridge High School to remember the school's former principal, coach and teacher. The fund will assist graduates to further their studies at a college, university or trade school. The Hospice of Dayton Foundation Fund, 2005 established through a bequest by Betty Jean Edwards, will help assure permanent financial resources for Hospice of Dayton's programs and services for terminally ill individuals and their families. The Arthur Huffer, Jr., Foundation 2005 encourages healthy lifestyles for Germantown residents by providing financial assistance for medical screenings, educational programs, emergency assistance and other activities. This fund was made possible through a bequest by Arthur Huffer, Jr. Humane Society of Greater Dayton Fund 2005 helps ensure proper treatment of unwanted or mistreated animals by providing unrestricted income for the Humane Society of Greater Dayton. The Legacy of Wellness Endowment Fund 2004 will further the Heart and Cancer Wellness Foundation's mission to save lives through early detection, education and lifestyle management for heart disease and cancer. The Life Enrichment Center Endowment Fund 2005 yields unrestricted income to further Life Enrichment Center's mission to provide food and other services to Greater Dayton area residents in need. Miami Valley Hospital Foundation Legacy Endowment Fund 2004 perpetuates the charitable endeavors of the Miami Valley Hospital Foundation. The Naum Family Foundation 2005 furthers the work of charitable organizations, as advised by the donor, Ann M. Shaw-Kremer, who established the fund in memory of her parents, Col. and Mrs. Albert C. Naum, and two brothers, Maj. Michael C. and Andrew C. Naum. The Mike Peters, Kids Voting, Dayton Daily News Scholarship Fund 2004 awards a college scholarship to the winner of the annual Mike Peters Editorial Cartooning Contest. The fund was established by Kids Voting and the Dayton Daily News. Places Legacy Fund 2004 provides unrestricted revenue to ensure the mission of Places, Inc., to promote and enhance community living skills and to provide quality housing options to individuals who are mentally ill, including those who are homeless. The Robert L. and Helen C. Potter Fund 2004 will perpetuate the Potter family’s interests in supporting arts education. Robert L. Potter served as the chief financial officer and treasurer for The Dayton Foundation from 1995 to 1998. The Mary and Richard Pryor Fund 2005 will provide a one-time charitable gift to the organizations of the donor's choice. Dr. Mary Pryor, a retired family practitioner, established this fund in memory of her husband, Richard Pryor, a founding member of the law firm Young, Pryor, Lynn & Jerardi. The Pat Rupp Family Foundation Fund 2004 fulfills the Rupp family's broad charitable interests. Pat L. Rupp, CFP, has been a financial advisor since 1968 and currently is the senior financial advisor for Pat Rupp & Associates. A former professional hockey player, he was traded to the Dayton Gems in 1965, played for seven season and participated on the 1964 and 1968 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team. He and wife Kathy decided to make Dayton their home in 1968. The Patricia A. and Darrell A. Landis Term Endowment Fund 2005 contributes assets for the housing of mental health or chemically dependent clients of Eastway Corp., a worthy cause supported by Darrell A. Landis, retired chairman of Guild & Landis Insurance Co., and his wife, Patricia. Louise R. Scheuerman Endowment Fund 2005 was established through a charitable gift annuity to support the operations of The Dayton Foundation and five other charitable organizations, as designated by the donor. The Seedling Foundation Fund 2005 dedicates its income to supporting arts programs at Stivers School for the Arts, as established by The Seedling Foundation, a not-for-profit organization founded by parents, school alumni and community leaders. Funds will be used for specialized equipment and materials, guest artists, scholarships and other educational pursuits. The Pfeife Smith World Affairs Scholarship Endowment Fund 2004 was established by the Dayton Council on World Affairs to award an annual scholarship in honor of Ruth Pfeiffer Smith, who was one of its founders and an active community leader. The South Community Legacy Fund 2004, serving children, families, and adults, will provide a continuum of behavioral healthcare services in the Greater Miami Valley region. The David S. Stover Dayton Bluehawk Travel Hockey Club Scholarship Fund 2005 will award scholarships to help Bluehawk Travel Hockey Club members further their studies at an accredited Ohio college or university. The Suicide Prevention Legacy Fund 2004 generates unrestricted operating and program revenue for the Suicide Prevention Center in Dayton. The Jerry Trimbach Scholarship Fund 2004 will assist students in furthering their education at Sinclair Community College. Jerry E. Trimbach, a founding owner of 2-J Supply Co., credited his education from Sinclair for his success later in life. His wife, Joan L. Trimbach, established this fund in his memory. The Marla Vichich Fund 2005 enhances charitable, educational, civic, religious and community activities of interest to the donor. Unified Health Solutions Legacy Fund 2004 empowers individuals to practice healthier lifestyles by generating unrestricted revenue for Unified Health Solutions' programs and services. The United Theological Seminary Permanent Endowment Fund 2005 provides a source of permanent, annual operating revenue for the United Theological Seminary. UTS Legacy for Tomorrow Fund 2004 was established by the United Theological Seminary to generate unrestricted operating revenue. The Benjamin Wegerzyn Legacy Society Endowment Fund 2004 benefits the Wegerzyn Gardens Foundation, which is dedicated to educating Miami Valley residents about horticulture. The Wright Family Foundation 2005 supports the preservation of aviation history related to Orville and Wilbur Wright, by funding research and publication of aviation history, scholarships for studies in the fields of aviation and aeronautics, educational programming, the restoration and display of aviation artifacts, and landmarks and memorials related to the Wright Brothers' story. Established by Wilkinson Wright, the Wright Brothers' grandnephew, the fund is advised by Stephen Wright and Amanda Wright Lane, great-grandnephew and grandniece. The Yellow Springs Endowment for Education Fund 2004 furthers the Yellow Springs Endowment for Education's mission to help finance educational projects for the local school system that would be difficult to fund with public money.FUND FAMILIES NEW FUNDS
African-American Community Funds
The Gem City Medical Society Foundation 2004 supports and promotes African-American health issues within the Greater Miami Valley community. The fund was established by five local physicians and dentists.
The Ida M. Graves Memorial Scholarship Fund 2005 was established by the friends and family of Ida M. Graves, who was an inspiration to all who knew her. Scholarships will be awarded to individuals participating in the CLIMB (Credentials and Leadership in Management and Business) Program at Wilberforce University. Carillon Historical Park Funds
The NCR Wave Cabin Fund 2005 was established by Carillon Historical Park to generate unrestricted revenue to help preserve the NCR Wave Cabin. The cabin housed young Navy WAVES, who manufactured NCR Bombes, top-secret machines built to crack German and Japanese codes during World War II.
Huber Heights Community Foundation
Huber Heights Community Foundation Fund 2004 will support cultural, recreational and charitable endeavors that benefit the citizens of Huber Heights. An initial gift from the Huber Heights Athletic Foundation helped to establish this fund.
The Lampe Family Foundation 2004 contributes support to charitable organizations, as directed by Martha Lampe, founder of Creative World Childcare, and her children, Robert E. Lampe and Karen Lampe Burdick. Lima Community Foundation Funds
The Allen County Historical Society Fund 2004 provides unrestricted operating revenue for the Allen County Historical Society, including the Allen County Museum.
The Lima Convalescent Home Foundation Legacy Fund 2004 benefits the programs and operations of this nonsectarian, assisted living home by generating unrestricted revenue. The James M. and Ruth E. McBride Family Scholarship Fund 2005 was established by James M., Jr., John T. and William A. McBride, to honor the memory of their parents by assisting students in furthering their studies at an institution of higher learning. The Glen and Margery Webb Family Fund 2005 enhances the Webb family's philanthropic wishes by awarding grants to charities, as advised by Margery H. Webb and her three children, Glen Carlton Webb, Elizabeth Webb Winget and Kathryn Webb Jordan. The Adrian G. and Anne M. Werst Scholarship Fund 2004 will provide scholarships for high school seniors whose fathers or grandfathers were members of an Ohio Masonic Lodge within the 10th Masonic District. Adrian G. Werst, Jr., a longtime member of the Masonic Temple in Wapakoneta, established the fund. Tipp City Area Community Foundation
The Philip D. Clawson Family Scholarship Fund 2005 honors the memory of this Harrison Township toolmaker, who valued education and the opportunities it offers individuals. This scholarship provides financial assistance to graduating Tippecanoe High School seniors.
The Maureen Demers Memorial Fund for the Needy 2004 was the inspiration of Maureen Demers just prior to her death from cancer in 2004. The fund stands as her legacy of devotion to helping people in need and her community for more than 46 years. The Tipp Monroe Community Services' Community Relief Program and St. Joseph Church Social Ministry's Community Outreach Program will share the fund's income. Vandalia-Butler Foundation
The Neal Family Hope Fund 2004 will further the charitable interests of the Neal family, who will advise grants to not-for-profit organizations of their choice. Martin and Debra Neal's daughter, Elizabeth, and her horse, Hope, were the inspiration for the fund and the fund's name.
