Allen Family Scholarship

The Allen Family Scholarship was established in 2021 in honor of William and Rose Allen. Born in 1930, William "Bill" Allen's determination stood out from an early age, as his childhood was shaped by the Great Depression. Despite financial struggles, Bill excelled academically and became an Eagle Scout at an early age. He graduated high school early, entered Central State University (CSU) at sixteen, and joined the Navy at eighteen to support his family. After his service, he returned to CSU, completing his degree with the help of the G.I. Bill. Bill's education led to a successful government career, enabling him to provide a better quality of life for his family. A founding member of Dayton's CSU alumni chapter, he contributed greatly to its success. His Naval Reserve unit was activated in 1974 to help restore CSU after a devastating tornado, exemplifying his dedication to the university. Bill was known for his sense of humor and generous financial contributions. Rose Allen, born into an Irish Catholic family, also valued education. She majored in Chemistry and later specialized in nuclear medicine while raising their four children. Inspired by Bill and Rose's commitment to education, their family created this scholarship to assist others in pursuing their education at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio.
