Area High School Juniors to Participate in 22nd Annual Junior Leadership Dayton Program on Philanthropy and Volunteerism
High school juniors from eight area schools will learn how, by being a volunteer or a philanthropist, individuals can help others and create a better community in which to live during The Dayton Foundation’s 22nd Annual Junior Leadership Dayton program, “Making a Difference in Your Community,” on Friday, February 3.
This year’s program will start with a presentation from The Dayton Foundation and a tour of Daybreak, 605 South Patterson Blvd, Dayton, Ohio, 45402, and its services to assist homeless and vulnerable youth. From there, students will visit three other local nonprofit organizations and hear firsthand what the organizations’ challenges and concerns are for today and the future, as well as their opportunities and rewards. They also will learn how volunteers and philanthropists are an essential resource for a sustainable nonprofit community.
Junior Leadership Dayton reaches out to youth who are the next generation of leaders and prepares them for constructive and responsible participation in community activities. Throughout the nine-month program, topics focus on specific areas of leadership in the community and emphasize values, such as honesty, respect, caring and responsibility. This is the 22nd year for Junior Leadership Dayton, which is sponsored by The Dayton Foundation, Wright State University and YMCA of Greater Dayton.
