Brookville Community Scholarship Foundation - Albert Gruening Memorial Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in 1994 by Hadley and Helen Bryant Hill in honor of Albert Gruening, a baker from Germany who came to Brookville in 1872. He married Rebecca Jane Wrights, and they became the parents of five children. One of his daughters, Dorothy Louise Gruenig, graduated from Brookville High School in 1895 and married Forrest Baker Bryant who graduated from Brookville High School in 1894. Their daughter, Kathryn Helen Bryant, married Hadley A. Hill. Helen was very devoted to her grandparents, parents and the Brookville community. To honor her family, Mrs. Hill established the scholarship fund.

Applicants must:

  • be a graduating senior from Brookville High School,
  • be accepted to a two- or four-year college, university or trade school, and
  • submit an essay about the history of Brookville or about people or families who have made contributions to the community.

At least one recipient each year must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students who are involved with community volunteer service, demonstrate high ethical and moral character and in the top 25 percent of their graduating high school class.
