Brookville Community Scholarship Foundation - Joy Dull Memorial Scholarship

The Joy Dull Memorial Scholarship was created by her children and grandchildren to honor the life and legacy of Joy Ann Helstern Dull. The three areas of focus for recipients are majors in music, education or agriculture based on Joy’s life and interests. Joy was best known for her extraordinary musical gifts. Her lifelong service as an organist at the Brookville Church of the Brethren began at age 14 and led to playing for countless recitals, weddings, community events and school functions including graduations, choir concerts and accompanying students at music contests. She was a beloved piano teacher for several decades, passing along her love of music to many students from many communities. Joy’s career plans of becoming a teacher were interrupted by becoming a farm wife and raising four children on the farm. Joy was an advocate for agriculture and served on a Church of the Brethren Brotherhood committee studying agricultural issues. Joy’s support of agriculture culminated in her four children, which formed the farm corporation that created this scholarship fund.

Applicants must be a graduating senior from Brookville High School. Priority will be given to students who plan to major in music, education or agriculture and/or who have worked for Dull Farms in the summer detasseling corn. Financial need will be considered if all else is equal.
