The Dayton Theatre Guild first opened its doors in the waning years of World War II. In 2009, the Guild purchased and converted an old gym on Wayne Avenue near the Oregon District into a thrust theatre. Recently, utility costs at the facility have dramatically increased, forcing the nonprofit organization to reallocate budget dollars that normally would support the production of cutting-edge theatre. Funds will be used to install solar panels on the facility’s large, flat roof to power the building, allowing the Guild to redirect resources that would have been spent on utility costs into its core mission.
