Kettering Education Foundation - Miss Leah Funck Memorial Scholarship
Leah Funck attended Muskingum College and Ohio State University, graduating with a master’s degree in education. In 1976 she retired from 51 years of teaching. She was an instructor of English and speech at Fairmont High School for 40 of those years and served as chair of the English Department. Her students frequently competed in district, state and national competitions. After she retired she served as a judge in forensics. In 1975 she was named Kettering Citizen of The Year for her excellence in teaching. She was inducted into the Kettering Education Hall of Fame in 1976 and received the Distinguished Service to Education National Speech Award in 1982.
Applicants must:
- be a graduating senior from Fairmont High School and
- be accepted to a two-year, four-year, technical school or college or university.
Financial need will be considered if all else is equal. Preference will be given to students who participated in theater, speech or debate at Fairmont High School. Preference will be given to first-generation college students.
