Richard L. "Dick" and Helen S. Shell Scholarship
Dick Shell became the principal at Northmont High School in 1959 after serving in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and World War II. He graduated from Wittenberg University with a Bachelor of Science in education and later earned a master's degree from The Ohio State University. He eventually became the assistant superintendent for the district and retired in 1979 after serving in education for 31 years. He valued service to others, service to his country and civic duty. He was an avid cyclist, participated in the Senior Olympics and accumulated more honors over the years than anyone will ever know. However, what he did like to talk about was his thousands of students, colleagues, family and friends he met and worked with throughout his life, especially his wife, Helen, to whom he was married for 71 years.
