Vandalia Butler Foundation - Makenna Liberty Johnson Memorial Scholarship
The Makenna Liberty Johnson Memorial Scholarship was established in 2025 to honor Makenna, who was proud to be a graduate of Vandalia-Butler High School. She participated in Butler’s Color Guard and later joined Dayton’s Onyx Guard. Makenna was known for her fun-loving personality and ability to make everyone around her feel included and loved. Through the offering of this scholarship, Makenna’s loving family and friends would like to bring attention to the dangers of distracted driving. While on her way to work on May 7, 2024, Makenna’s life was taken when her car was hit head-on by a distracted driver. In addition to awarding scholarships to help students further their education, this fund serves as a reminder to people to eliminate distractions while operating a vehicle by putting phones away, securing animals safely and always driving sober.
Applicants must:
- be a graduating senior from Butler High School who is a member of the Color Guard, marching band or choir and
