Our Endowed Funds

Since 1921, The Dayton Foundation has been helping donors and organizations help others and our community through endowed funds that preserve our donors’ charitable purposes, today and after their lifetimes.

James Investment Research Fund – 2001 supports charitable activities, as designated by the donor.

James Investment Research Fund, Inc. – 2000 was created by this investment management company in Alpha and guarantees income for the company's designated charities.

Barry R. and Joy A. James Fund – 2012 supports the charitable interests of its donors, Barry James, chairman of the board of James Investment Research, Inc., and his wife, Joyanna.

The David W. James Charitable Fund – 2019 garners revenue to support nonprofit organizations important to the donor, including 4 Paws for Ability. 4 Paws for Ability believes in providing the highest level of care and quality for their dogs as well as those who utilize their services.

Dr. Frank E. James Fund – 2000 supports charitable organizations, as designated by the donor, the late founder and president of James Investment Research, Inc.

Frank E. James III Charitable Fund – 2019 supports and initiates charitable contributions for the benefit of Greater Dayton. 

Anna E. James Fund – 1984 apportions income to the Cross Point Church and the First Baptist Church of Centerville. Originally established by will in 1934, this fund was later transferred to the Foundation. Anna James was born in 1861. She moved to Centerville from Urbana and resided at the Widows Home from 1913 to 1933.

Macy P. Janney Advanced Teacher Training Seminar (ATTS) Scholarship – 2021 helps teachers attend a five-day, arts-immersive learning experience in New York City. The fund honors longtime Muse Machine supporter Macy Janney, the mother of Oscar-winning actress Allison Janney. 

The JDS Fishing Foundation – 2004 was created with the proceeds of a winning lottery ticket to enhance the charitable interests of its donors.

Russ and Edith Jerd Fund – 2003 directs income to The Engineers Club of Dayton and Sinclair Community College for the Division of Engineering and Industrial Technologies, as designated by the fund's founders, the late Dr. Russell F. Jerd, retired dean of Sinclair Community College Engineering Technology Department, and his wife, Edith Oyer Jerd.

JJR Solutions Starfish Scholarship – 2019 helps high school students in Dayton, Jefferson Township, Mad River, Northridge and Trotwood-Madison school districts to further their education. Potential recipients should exemplify grit, courage and determination to meet their goals despite life’s obstacles. 

Dennis Johnson Scholarship Fund – 2022 offers tuition and fee assistance to incoming freshman at Purcell Marian Catholic High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Roberta Johnson and her children established this fund in memory of her husband, Dennis “Dennie” Johnson, a former Marianist brother and graduate of the University of Dayton, who served as principal of Purcell Marian. 

Mary Ann and Rich Johnson Fund for Aviation History and Heritage – 2015 supports local nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to preserving and fostering aviation heritage and history. The fund was established by the children of Mary Ann and Rich Johnson to honor their parents’ longtime interest in Dayton’s rich aviation legacy and used funds from the Johnsons’ Charitable Checking AccountSM.

Oliver and Marie Johnson Fund – 1987 supports a number of charitable organizations. This fund was established by the late Marie Johnson in memory of her husband, an American history teacher for many years with Oakwood City Schools.

Daryl Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund – 2022 carries on the legacy of this coach and mentor by providing financial assistance for Dayton-area high school graduating seniors planning to further their education. Coach Jones strived to instill the qualities of positivity, fairness, dedication and respect into the students he coached, taught and befriended.

Mike and Laura Joyce Family Fund – 2013 advances the charitable activities of the donors by awarding grants to nonprofit organizations of their choosing.

Jude 2 Foundation in the Name of Jesus Christ – 2021 supports Christian-centered charities in the Miami Valley and internationally. 

Junior Achievement Fund – 1979 was established to ensure financial support for this youth-based organization. The fund was created by Charles W. Danis.

Junior League of Dayton Endowment Fund – 1987 sustains the general charitable activities of the League, including the promotion of volunteerism.

Robert and Beverly Jurick Charitable Fund – 2013 awards grants to support Mary Help of Christians Church in Fairborn where the Juricks are active members.

While the size and purpose of each fund is different, our donors share the same goal – to make a difference.
