(July 1, 2025) The Dayton Foundation Governing Board has approved grants totaling $132,499 to 23 charitable organizations in Greater Dayton as part of the Foundation’s Basic Human Needs Grants process. These grants help nonprofit organizations that assist Greater Dayton individuals and families in need of basic necessities, such as food, shelter, clothing and healthcare. The following organizations recently were awarded grants.
Access to Excess ($4,500) to help purchase supplies for the Soup Stand program and help fund transportation costs.
Central Christian Church ($7,500) to purchase high-demand food items and a refrigeration unit for a drive-through food pantry.
Christ Child Society of Dayton ($4,000) to provide clothing gift cards for children from under-resourced families in the Miami Valley through the Clothe-A-Child program.
Common Good of Preble County ($7,500) to purchase milk distributed to six Preble County pantries as part of the Preble County Kooler Kids program.
Daybreak Dayton ($4,200) to purchase food and diverse skin and hair care products to benefit youth who visit the Drop-in Center.
East Dayton Fellowship ($5,000) to enhance the food pantry and purchase supplies for a community garden.
House of Bread ($7,500) to provide travel-sized hygiene products for House of Bread guests.
HUES Women's Health Advocacy Institute ($2,000) to purchase hygiene supplies for women of color through the Bloom Well Hygiene Program.
K12 Gallery &TEJAS ($7,500) to purchase snacks and refreshments for the HAALO Mural Program, which benefits at-risk students involved with the Montgomery County Juvenile Court System.
Kids in New Directions (KIND) ($7,500) to assist in purchasing “Ready to Prepare” meals that will be distributed to families of children that participate in KIND.
Miami Valley Council Boy Scouts of America ($1,500) to purchase food for Scouts participating in the Gem City Scouting program, which provides no-cost Scouting opportunities to at-risk, disadvantaged and underserved youth.
Miami Valley Leadership Foundation ($5,000) to cover the purchase of Big Life Journals designated as a social-emotional training tool for the Mentoring2Thrive program.
New Life Furniture Bank ($7,500) to help furnish houses for families and individuals overcoming homelessness or extreme poverty in Montgomery County.
Period Kits Ohio ($2,000) to purchase feminine hygiene items, which will be distributed to food pantries, women’s shelters and libraries that support those in need.
Ronald McDonald House Charities Dayton ($7,500) to purchase a commercial-grade washing machine.
Shoes 4 the Shoeless ($6,000) to help purchase shoes for children in need who attend school in Montgomery, Greene, Miami, Preble and Warren (north) counties.
SICSA ($5,649) to assist in providing dog and cat food through the Pet Food Pantry program for owners who are experiencing temporary hardships.
Sidewalk Soldiers ($4,650) to help provide food and hygiene products for guests of the Drop-In Center on Xenia Avenue.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace ($6,500) to purchase lumber, hardware, materials, mattresses and bedding for Montgomery County children who need beds.
St. Mary Development Corporation ($6,500) to purchase bus cards for low-income seniors to utilize Dayton RTA’s Para Transit Service and the City of Kettering Senior Transportation Services through the Charles Lathrem Senior Center.
St. Vincent de Paul, St. Rita's, St. Paul's, and Precious Blood Conference ($7,500) to assist Northwest Dayton residents in need with rent and utility assistance, food, furniture and or small household appliances.
United Way of the Greater Dayton Area ($7,500) to support the 211 HelpLink Strong Families service.
Westminster Presbyterian Church ($7,500) to purchase state-issued birth certificates and supplies in support of the Westminster Birth Certificate Ministry.
