Making Gifts to a Foundation Fund of The Dayton Foundation

It is easy to make contributions to a fund at The Dayton Foundation. Each year, we receive thousands of gifts from donors and other individuals to be credited to a Foundation fund or Charitable Checking Account. Below are a few simple steps to help facilitate the timely processing of your contributions.

Gifts of Credit Card

You can use your VISA, MasterCard or American Express credit card to contribute to any Dayton Foundation fund or Charitable Checking Account online.

Once your transaction is completed, The Dayton Foundation will mail you a letter acknowledging your contribution. Gifts into your own account will be available for distribution to the charities of your choice in approximately three to five business days.

Gifts Using Checks or Money Orders

Checks should be made payable to The Dayton Foundation.

Please note the fund or account name and number on the memo line of the check or in an attached letter.

You may mail or drop off checks or money orders (We do not accept gifts of cash) to our offices located at:

The Dayton Foundation
1401 S. Main Street, Suite 100
Dayton, Ohio 45409

For your convenience, you may also use the secure drop-off box located next to the building’s staff entrance in front of the parking lot.

Gifts of Stock Held in Your Brokerage Account

Should you wish to donate appreciated stock, you must have your financial advisor or investment company send the shares of stock in-kind to The Dayton Foundation. Do not sell them yourself.

1. Provide written instructions to your broker, specifying the number and type of shares to be transferred.

2. Send a copy to Tracie Boshears at The Dayton Foundation. To ensure that your gift will be credited properly, you must contact Tracie at (937) 225-9967 or tboshears@daytonfoundation.org

3. Please be patient! It can take five to seven days for the proceeds from the sale of the securities to be made available in your Foundation fund or account.

If your brokerage firm does not have an account with The Dayton Foundation, you may instruct your broker to electronically transfer shares of stock to one of the following firms with whom we have made arrangements for discounted transaction fees.

Required minimum distributions (RMD) sent directly to your fund are considered a QCD and satisfy the RMD requirement. These gifts are not considered taxable income.
